In Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippine authorities apprehended five Nigerian nationals on Thursday for allegedly kidnapping their compatriot. The suspects, identified as Evans Enwwereaku Chinemerem, David Chidera Ibegbulamo, Nwokeke Christian Ihechukwu, Nwokeke Cajothan Chinemmerem, and Okonkwo Emmanuel Kosiso, are facing charges of kidnapping for ransom and violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (Republic Act 10591).
The arrest was executed after a coordinated raid by the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group, Mabalacat City Police, and Angeles City Police at a hideout in Barangay Malabanias around 5 a.m. According to Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, director of Central Luzon Police, the operation was based on intelligence from the Anti-Kidnapping Group. The suspects allegedly abducted Kingsley Chukwuemeka Ikeagwuana, a Nigerian student living in Paranaque City, and held him for ransom.
Authorities confiscated three firearms from the suspects, including two .45 caliber pistols and a .38 caliber revolver with ammunition. Brig. Gen. Maranan expressed hope that this operation serves as a deterrent for those considering criminal activities, stating, “Hopefully, this will serve as a warning to those who want to commit crimes and to thieves.”
