A shocking revelation has emerged about how the National Secretary of African Strongest political party, who, despite holding a PhD in law, appears to be woefully unaware of what his country’s constitution say about political party. This startling lack of knowledge was exposed by Sen Ajibola Bashir when he went on television to discuss form collection by diaspora delegates vying for elective positions, only to stumble over basic constitutional provisions.
However, INEC has made a clear statement, in writing, that political parties registered in Nigeria are NOT permitted to have Diaspora chapters! According to the electoral body, this directive is rooted in sections 221, 222, 223, and 225 of the Nigerian Constitution and sections 82 (1), (2) & (3) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which render such chapters illegal, null and void.
The executive’s ignorance has raised eyebrows, particularly given his recent tour of APC UK chapters to conduct congress. Critics argue that his lack of understanding of the party’s working tactics undermines his credibility to lead such efforts. Many concerned party members are worried how someone who just joined the party and don’t know the working ethics of the party could turn to be conducting congresses for diaspora chapters.
Some have suggested that this former Senator may be working against President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by allegedly recruiting individuals opposed to the party for his selfish gains, thereby sowing discord among diaspora members.
As the situation unfolds, many are left wondering how someone in such a prominent position with big degrees yet not privy to this important section about his country’s constitution as it relates to political parties in Nigeria. The incident has sparked heated debate about accountability and quality of leadership within Nigeria’s political landscape.
